FOLEY – The City Council elected on Aug. 26 will guide a wide range of projects that will shape Foley’s future over the next four years.

Voters will cast ballots at the Foley Civic Center to choose the representatives who will oversee new recreation facilities, civic buildings, infrastructure improvements, and community enhancements during the upcoming term.

Several major projects are already in the planning stages and will come before the next council for consideration, including:

  • A new aquatic center at Max Griffin Park to replace the city’s 60-year-old outdoor pool.

  • A new civic center to replace the current 1970s facility, increasing seating capacity from 415 to about 900.

  • A new museum honoring Foley’s designation as Alabama’s official American World War II Heritage City by the National Park Service.

  • An expanded senior center now under design.

  • A performing arts center to provide new cultural opportunities for residents and visitors is in the planning stages.

  • Expansion of Graham Creek Nature Preserve, with efforts underway to secure funding for additional land.

  • A new safe room for first responders to use during hurricanes and other emergencies.

In addition, Foley will continue its program to design and build road, intersection, and sidewalk improvements to meet the needs of a growing community.

Several projects are also expected to be completed during the new council term, including:

  • The new public library and community center, scheduled to open in 2026.

  • The new public works campus, providing updated facilities for Public Works, Sanitation, and the municipal garage.

  • Renovations of existing facilities, including plans to repurpose the current library and public works buildings for other municipal uses.

  • Expansion of the former National Guard Armory, located behind City Hall, for recreational programs and municipal offices.

These projects reflect Foley’s commitment to enhancing quality of life, supporting growth, and investing in facilities that serve residents today and in the years ahead.
