The City of Foley is moving forward with plans to improve traffic flow on South Juniper Street by adding new turn lanes near Iberville Square.

At its April 6 meeting, the Foley City Council approved the project, which will enhance safety and efficiency along one of the city’s busiest corridors. According to City Engineer Taylor Davis, the improvements have been part of the city’s capital plan for several years.

“This is for a left-turn lane onto Beignet Drive on Juniper Street,” Davis said. “With the amount of traffic on Juniper Street, this is a project that is clearly warranted.”

The project includes the construction of a southbound left-turn lane onto Beignet Drive, as well as a median island that will feature future landscaping designed to encourage traffic calming. Work will take place along South Juniper Street between East Lawson Avenue and Beignet Drive.

With the design phase now complete, the city will begin the bidding process for construction.

Funding for the project will come from impact fees, which are collected from developers building new homes in the area. These fees help support infrastructure improvements such as park expansions and roadway upgrades needed to accommodate growth.
