FOLEY – Thousands of costumed creatures wandered the streets of downtown Foley on Thursday, Oct. 26 during the annual Hometown Halloween celebration.

About 60 local businesses, civic organizations and other groups set up tents and tables where children played games and filled bags with treats. Children also lined up for bounce houses, face painting, a cake walk and other activities.

One new feature for 2023 was the judging of booth decorations. Wolf Bay Restaurant took the prize for decorations with its “Frankenstein” themed display.

One annual highlight of Hometown Halloween is the costume contest. This year, more than 200 costumed participants took part. Contestants ranging in age from babies to teens and older showed off costumes that were judged based on originality and creativity.

Hometown Halloween is a partnership between the city and local businesses, churches and community organizations.

Downtown streets were closed to traffic during the event. Foley police and firefighters were on hand for safety as well as greeting visitors with public safety displays.
