FOLEY – The Foley City Council voted Tuesday, Sept. 2, to certify the results of the Aug. 26 municipal election.
When the new term begins Nov. 3, the council will include three new members alongside two returning incumbents. Mayor Ralph Hellmich, who was unopposed in his bid for re-election, will also continue to serve.
Voters selected candidates to represent four of the city’s five districts. In District 3, Roddy Burkle was unopposed. He will succeed Richard “Dick” Dayton, who had qualified to run but later withdrew for health reasons. Dayton passed away on Aug. 21.
Certified results are as follows:
-
District 1: Incumbent Wayne Trawick – 221 votes; Barry Hughes – 95 votes.
-
District 2: Timothy “Tim” Lower – 240 votes; incumbent Vera Quaites – 168 votes; Donald Barnett – 8 votes.
-
District 3: Roddy Burkle – unopposed.
-
District 4: Larry Engel – 98 votes; Phillip Hinesley – 43 votes. (Incumbent Rick Blackwell did not seek re-election.)
-
District 5: Incumbent Charles Ebert III – 238 votes; Derrick Perdue – 75 votes.
A total of 1,157 votes were cast in person at the Foley Civic Center polling site, with an additional 21 absentee ballots and eight provisional ballots counted.
Hellmich said the election process went smoothly and expressed appreciation for the service of outgoing council members. He also welcomed the opportunity to work with the incoming representatives.
“The message I share with our new council members is that if we can’t work together, we won’t get anything done,” Hellmich said. “I believe we’ll be able to work as a team, keep things moving forward, and continue addressing the needs of our community.”
