FOLEY – From a miniature horse dressed as a pirate to superheroes, Transformers, and characters straight out of Dr. Seuss and Doctor Who, downtown Foley was filled with creativity and fun during this year’s Hometown Halloween celebration.
Thousands of children — and many adults — took part in the annual downtown event on Thursday, Oct. 23, enjoying an evening of costumes, games, and community spirit.
One of the highlights of the night was the annual costume contest, which drew more than 250 participants of all ages. Costumes were judged on creativity and originality, with categories for ages 2 and under through teens and adults, as well as a group category. Prizes were awarded to winners in each division.
Throughout the evening, local businesses and organizations hosted games and activities, offering candy, prizes, and other treats. Kids enjoyed tossing beanbags and rings, bouncing in the inflatable jump house, face painting, a cake walk, and other family-friendly attractions.
Hometown Halloween has been a cherished Foley tradition for more than 20 years. The event is organized each October by the City of Foley.
To ensure a safe and enjoyable evening, several downtown streets were closed to traffic during the event. Foley Police and Fire Department personnel were on hand, and additional lighting was provided so everyone could trick-or-treat safely.
