FOLEY – Foley is making plans to prepare for the region’s annual celebration of lighter-than-air flight, the 21st-annual Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon festival.
The Foley City Council will discuss ways that the city supports the annual event when it meets Monday, March 17. The council’s regular work session and meeting begins at 4 p.m. at Foley City Hall.
The festival is hosted by the South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce. The 2025 festival will take place May 1 through 3 at OWA.
The city supports the event with a performance contract and services such as police and fire assistance, placing barricades, sanitation and the use of city property for parking.
Other actions on the council agenda for the Monday meeting include:
- Hearing department reports on taxes, permits, community development, police and fire.
- Establishing the polling place for the 2025 Foley municipal elections on Aug. 26, 2025.
- Declaring municipal property surplus and authorizing its transfer in exchange for other real property.
- Approving an ABC license for Cheeseburger Randy’s on South Alston Street.
- Approving a silver sponsorship to the Alabama Tourism Bash on April 22, 2025.
- Purchasing a 2025 CAT 320 excavator for the Street Department.
- Approving funds for professional services for the Downtown Residential Streetscape Conceptual Design.
- Authorizing a budget transfer between categories in the Street Department.
- Appointing voting delegates to the Alabama League of Municipalities Annual Business Session.
- Waiving fees for the use of Heritage Park and Pavilion for Brian Wright to host a fundraiser.
- Waiving fees for the use of Heritage Park by Crosspoint Baptist Church to host a Candlelight Worship Service on Dec. 20, 2025.
- Amending the pay classification in the Police Department and Street Department.
- Approving a retirement award.
- Adopting 3D printing rules and procedures for the Foley Public Library.
- Approving monthly bids for February 2025.
- Accepting revised Foley Municipal Airport minimum standards for commercial aeronautical activities.
- Purchasing a sub-compact tractor for the Nature Parks Department.
- Appointing Misty Garza and Amanda Griffiths to the Foley Revitalization and Beautification Advisory Board.
