FOLEY – A sidewalk extension project will add more than three quarters of a mile of walkway to link attractions and activity centers in south Foley.

The project calls for 4,200 feet of sidewalk to be built linking South Juniper Street near the Tanger Outlet Center with the Foley Event Center and OWA. The estimated cost of the project is about $400,000.

City Administrator Mike Thompson said one advantage of the new walkways is that the route will provide pedestrian access for people staying at the J1 Center planned as a residential site for seasonal students and workers.

“This was one of the things that we committed to that developer to do because there are going to be 600 J1 students to start out there and this sidewalk is going to give them easy access to commercial areas where they’re going to be working back toward Tanger towards OWA and so forth,” Thompson said.

The sidewalk will extend from South Juniper Street along Kenny Stabler Avenue to Beck Road and south along Koniar Way to the Foley Farmers’ and Fishermen’s Market.
