Foley council to consider sidewalk projects

FOLEY – Funding for four sidewalk projects is among the items to be considered by the Foley City Council on Monday, April 15.

The council work session and meeting will begin at 4 p.m. at Foley City Hall.

The council is scheduled to vote on sidewalk projects providing access to Foley High School, Mathis Elementary School, Foley Elementary School and Alabama 59. 

The Foley Elementary sidewalk would extend along North Cedar Street in front of the campus. The Foley High walkway would be built on South Pine Street near Pride Drive. The Mathis sidewalk would be constructed along South Cedar Street. The Alabama 59 walkway would be on the east side of the highway extending south from East Verbena Avenue.

Other items on the council agenda include:

  • Holding a public hearing to consider rezoning property on East Michigan Avenue from B-1A, extended business, to R-3, residential, multifamily.
  • Holding a public hearing to consider rezoning property east of North McKenzie Street and north of East Berry Avenue from B-1A, extended business district, and M-1, light industrial, to Planned Unit Development.
  • Receiving the monthly reports on taxes, permit plans, community development, police and fire.
  • Rezoning property owned by Crimson Land Development from B1A, extended business, to R-3, residential, multifamily.
  • Rezoning property owned by Fikes Wholesale from B1A, extended business district and M1, light industrial, to Planned Unit Development.
  • Amending the Health and Safety chapter of the city zoning ordinance.
  • Adopting the Baldwin County 9-1-1 GIS/Addressing office addressing and street name standards in the city of Foley.
  • Approving payment for a drug counselor at the Dream Center for two years.
  • Setting a public hearing to declare weeds a nuisance on East Orange Avenue and ordering its abatement.
  • Approving an increase to a city credit card limit and the issuance of three new credit cards.
  • Amending the city Fiscal Year 2024 budgets.
  • Approving the use of Aaronville Park for Vanessa Williams/Our Children Do Matter Inc. two-day Juneteenth Day celebration.
  • Approving an application for a Fiscal Year 2025 Gulf Coast Resource Conservation and Development Council grant.
  • Declaring a Street Department vehicle surplus and donating the vehicle.
  • Approving monthly bids for March 2024.
  • Appointing Michael Dugger to the Riviera Utilities Board.
  • Approving the professional land survey proposal from Goodwyn Mills Cawood for the Foley Beach Express division of Tax Parcel 05-54-07-35-0-000-001.001.
  • Installing new lighting for the East Jessamine Street extension from Cypress Street to Chicago Street.
  • Appointing Council Member Vera Quaites to the Foley Education Advisory Committee.
  • Approving the facade grant request for AT Medical Holdings.
  • Approving the application to the Fiscal Year 2024 state Homeland  Security Grant Program for Community Preparedness and Resilience.
  • Applying to the Fiscal Year 2024 Energy Efficiency and Community Block Grant program.
  • Appropriating funds and approving Sawgrass Consulting, LLC for remaining parking lot and road construction north of CAFFM adjacent to the new pickleball courts.
  • Appropriating $1,147,328 and providing permission to go to  bid for new pickleball courts using impact fees. 
  • Approving the purchase of a radio and telephone recording system.
