FOLEY – Due to traffic changes following the start of work at the intersection of Baldwin County 12 and Alabama 59 in Foley, a temporary four-way stop sign has been installed at the intersection of Baldwin County 12 and James Road.
The stop sign was put in place due to public safety concerns after portions of County 12 were detoured when work began on the highway intersection on Feb. 6. The detour was established to allow crews to widen the road and extend culverts.
The detour diverts traffic to the Foley Beach Express and Miflin Road-Baldwin County 20 to avoid the construction. Motorists should follow traffic signs and use extra caution and reduce speeds in the work zone and along the detour routes.
Construction will continue with additional widening, concrete items and paving for the right turn lanes under typical lane closures.
The project includes adding right-turn lanes on Alabama 59 North and Alabama 59 South and adding left and right-turn lanes on Baldwin County 12. The project also includes culvert extensions and signal upgrades.
Work at the intersection of Alabama 59 and Baldwin County 12 is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2025.
