Four-way stop signs are in place at the intersection of South Hickory Street and West Michigan Avenue after the temporary traffic signal at the site was damaged.
Motorists are urged to exercise caution when using the intersection.
Temporary traffic lights have been operating at the intersection since March. Permanent signals will be placed at the site as soon as the equipment is delivered.
Traffic lights are scheduled to be back in operation at the site in a week to 10 days.
The intersection was recently improved with additional turn lanes. The new signal lights now on order will be mounted on mast arms capable of withstanding hurricane-force winds.
The project was under Baldwin County’s supervision and direction during the construction phase. West Michigan Avenue is designated Baldwin County 26 at the location.
The Foley City Council voted to enter into an intergovernmental agreement with the Baldwin County Commission for a joint project to improve the intersection. Under the agreement, the city paid for the survey and design plan creation. The county implemented the construction plans.
