FOLEY – Work is scheduled to start Thursday, Feb. 6, on improvements at the intersection of Baldwin County 12 and Alabama 59 in Foley.
During the start of the project, traffic on the east side of the intersection on Baldwin County 12 will be detoured to allow crews to widen the road and extend culverts. The road will reopen after that phase of the work is completed.
Motorists will need to follow the signed detour utilizing Foley Beach Express and Miflin Road-Baldwin County 20 to avoid the construction. Motorists should follow traffic signs and use extra caution and reduce speeds in the work zone and along the detour routes. The detour will go into effect Thursday at about 10 a.m. The detour is expected to be in place for eight to 10 weeks.
Construction will continue with additional widening, concrete items and paving for the right turn lanes under typical lane closures.
The project includes adding right-turn lanes on Alabama 59 North and Alabama 59 South and adding left and right-turn lanes on Baldwin County 12. The project also includes culvert extensions and signal upgrades.
The $1.83 million-dollar project was awarded to McElhenney Construction Company, LLC. Work is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2025.
The Alabama Department of Transportation is overseeing the project.
