The city park located in Aaronville on South Cedar Street will be dedicated to Florence B. Mathis, a long-time principal and teacher at Aaronville High School. The dedication will be held in the park on Saturday, Sept. 17, at noon. The two-acre park contains a pool, pavilion, swing set, restrooms and play structures.
Florence B. Mathis was the first teacher at Aaronville School, and later became Baldwin County’s first black female principal. She was an inspiration to students and made a huge impact on the lives of many. She encouraged students to go to school and continue their education. Mathis, who died in 1979, will be represented by her family at the dedication.
The community is invited to attend. The Foley Police will be grilling hot dogs.
