FOLEY – Additional upgrades are coming to Mel Roberts Park, thanks to savings from a recently completed improvement project.
The Foley City Council has approved a second phase of improvements at the Cedar Street park, using about money remaining from the initial project budget.
Jeff Lee, director of the Foley Parks and Recreation Department, said the new work will build on upgrades completed last year.
“In the first phase, we were able to improve the ball fields, lighting, bathrooms, concession building and scoreboards,” Lee said. “We now have funds left in that project account that we would like to use to further improve the fields, add irrigation, resod the fields and build a barn between fields B and C.”
The upcoming work will include installing irrigation systems and new sod on three ball fields, replacing fencing and backstop netting, and constructing a barn to store equipment and mowers.
Work on the new improvements is scheduled to begin in August.
